Healthier Chocolate Chip Cookie Dip

I dip, you dip, we all dip! As long as we are dipping apples or graham crackers into this delicious, healthier chocolate chip cookie dip! I revamped the traditional recipe by using Neufchâtel cheese, Greek yogurt and reduced the powder sugar, brown sugar, butter amount. This dip still has the sweet taste and creamy texture we all love, just will a few nutritional upgrades. So get you apple slices ready and dig into this recipe!

Let’ get mixing!

The Ingredients:

  • Neufchâtel Cheese or Reduced Fat Cream Cheese- Opting for the Neufchâtel Cheese or reduced-fat cream cheese reduces the fat content from the cream cheese by a third.
  • Vanilla Triple Zero Greek Yogurt- Greek yogurt is thick and creamy and is able to replace half of the cream cheese a traditional recipe would call for. By using Greek yogurt to replace half of the cream cheese, the fat content is reduced, and the protein and fiber is increased. This Greek yogurt is called “Triple Zero” because it has zero grams of fat, zero grams sugar, and zero artificial sweeteners. To give sweetness to the yogurt, stevia is used. An added bonus, it that there are 6 grams of fiber per cup! If you want to add a different flavor to the dip, you could use their salted caramel, chocolate, peanut butter banana or even their coconut crème flavor!
  • Butter- Butter is still used but in a much smaller quantity. Only 2 tablespoons are used compared to other recipes which use 1/3 to ½ a cup.
  • Powder Sugar & Brown Sugar- The sugar amount varies from recipe to recipe, but most use over 1/2 cup of the sugars combined. This recipe cuts the sugar amount down to about a 1/3 cup.
  • Vanilla- Just to add some extra delicious flavor without any added calories or fat.
  • The Mix-Ins: Mini Chocolate Chips, Caramel Chips, Walnuts. Feel free to experiment with different types of mix ins! Some variations are listed in the “Tips and Variation” section of this post.
  • Dippers: Apples, Banana Slices, Graham Crackers, Vanilla Wafers, Pretzels… any food you want to dip into it!

The Nutritional Comparison

With some simple swaps, we can enjoy this classic dessert dip with fewer calories, saturated fat, carbohydrates and added sugar. Plus, we can increase the protein and fiber content! Take a look below at how my revamped recipe compares to a traditional chocolate chip cookie dough dip. I promise, my healthier version is just as delicious!

How to make the delicious dip:

  1. Allow the Neufchâtel Cheese or Reduced-fat Cream Cheese and butter to come to room temperature.
  2. Cream together the room temperature cheese and butter.
  3. Add in the vanilla Triple Zero Greek Yogurt, powder sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Mix until well combined.
  4. Fold in the mini chocolate chips, chopped caramel chips, and chopped walnuts.
  5. Place in a serving dish and refrigerate for about 15 minutes or until slightly firm.
  6. Serve with apple slices and a variety of graham cracker flavors, such as chocolate and honey.

Tips and Variations:

  • If you forget to pull out your Neufchâtel Cheese or Reduced fat Cream Cheese, microwave the cheese in 15 second increments until softened. Be careful not to melt the cheese. The same can be done with the butter, but microwave in 5 second increments due to the small amount of butter used.
  • Feel free to add in what ever type of mix-ins you would like! Some different variations are:
    • White chocolate chips and macadamia nuts
    • Chocolate chips and toffee pieces
    • Cinnamon, raisins, instant oats
    • Mini M&M’s

Storage:

  • This recipe can be made a few days in advance. Simply put it in a sealed storage container and place it in the refrigerator. It can be stored up to 5 days.
  • Freezing is not recommended.

I made this for our Superbowl gathering. I added chocolate chips and reese’s peanut butter chips to the mix and we used chocolate grahams, regular (honey) grahams, and Nilla wafers for dipping. It was delicious! I may omit the vanilla extract next time or use plain greek yogurt instead of the vanilla flavor or perhaps even a different brand of vanilla flavored greek yogurt, but it was just a tad bit vanilla-y for me. My husband thought the greek yogurt made it a little too tangy but he’s not really a yogurt person, everyone else very much enjoyed this recipe. Thanks!
